Passport For Mac Unlocks But Doesnt Show Up

Wd my passport is detected but does not show up solved WD my passport ultra suddenly don't show up solved WD Passport shows up on disk utility but will not mount. When I plug my WD passport into my computer (or any computer) it isn’t coming up. I can find it, but I can’t open it and view the files. It does the same thing on a Windows or a Mac. However, if I plug it into the TV, it recognizes some or most of the files, so I know they’re still there.

I recently updated my 13-inch Retina Macbook Pro (Late 2013) to OS X Yosemite (10.10). I have a Western Digital My Passport (2TB) external hard drive and when I plug it in, I can hear the hard drive running but its not showing up in finder, or on the desktop, even though I have the option to show them enabled.

The hard drive is showing up in Disk Utility. I have a lot of stuff on this hard drive, so I would like to stay as far as possible from wiping it clean.

The external hard drive I'm using is f ormatted to NTFS (that could be the problem but not quite sure). If anyone has any fixes, please let me know by replying to this thread.

Hi guys I had the same issue Disk Description: Samsung S2 Portable Media Total Capacity: 1 TB (1,000,204,886,016 Bytes) Connection Bus: USB Write Status: Read/Write Connection Type: External S.M.A.R.T. Status: Not Supported USB Serial Number: 000050141B Partition Map Scheme: Master Boot Record The disk appeared in disk utility. After ejecting it from inside disk utility, disconnecting and the reconnecting, I was able to access the contents. After disconnecting it again from Finder and reconnecting, the disk didn't show up. Quite an improvisation! Yosemite won't work with ntfs drives for some reason, i've had the same issue with my toshiba. I thought ok lemme buy another one, and transfer it over maybe it's a driver issue which i've tried over and over, apple support can't figure it out.

Here's a simple fix, but the problem is i have an external where all my photography and video files are stored, so i can't access them right now and it's making my life ****. That does work and make the drive mountable now, but problem being i can't obviously reformat the old drive and lose everything. Once the new drive is formatted for mac i can't plug it into a pc to transfer the files from. Which is the only problem now. But formatting the drive for mac only DOES work.

But you're just screwed and not able to use it ntfs. Hope the link helps SOME people. Also, just as a side note. This morning my external drive stopped working. I tried a few things, some utilities and such and figured that my enclosure had failed.

After purchasing a new one, I found that it still didn't work. I had tried the usb port directly adjacent to the original port on my mac mini, and you guess it, it worked. It seems that half of my usb ports now no longer work.

I have reset the pram and other things but still no luck. Tested with a low power device (thumb drive) and it lights up but still no joy. When I searched the other forums I noticed that others are having the same odd issues. Hi, everyone. My WD Passport Ultra 2TB external hard drive is not showing up in explorer when I plug it into the USB port in a 'normal way'. I have to connect it through a 'bizarre way' to make it show up in explorer.

I realizes there were threads related to the same issue, but it's not what I am looking for. Let me explain the 'normal way': I have another 1TB WD (same model as my 2TB WD) which behaves in a 'normal way'. Just plug and play. Nothing weird! Once I connect it, the LED blinks for a few times for successful connection. I can find it in explorer Let me explain the 'bizarre way: The 2TB WD behaves in a 'bizarre way'. If I connect it in the 'normal way', it will not show up in explorer, Diskpart, or Disk management no matter how long I wait.

In order to make the 2TB WD to show, I have to process the following steps every time I connect this 2TB external hard drive: First, plug in the USB cable halfway through any one of my desktop computer's USB ports. Then, wait for the drive to show up in explorer. Finally, I can push the USB completely into the USB port. The difference is that the successful connection of the 2TB WD happens when the USB cable is half way into the USB port.
