My Mac Is Too Slow For Video Editing
Hi, So I was using Premier Pro and After Effects CS6 allot because I’m in the middle of my final video for college there is allot of effects so I’ve been sending allot of the clips to after effects. CNET's Forum on Mac OS is the best source for finding help or getting troubleshooting advice from a community of experts. Discussions cover Mac OS such as Tiger, Panther, Leopard or Snow Leopard.
So I have a decently spec'ed computer but anytime I try to trim or even play back my edit in Lightworks, it is painfully slow. The viewer will sometimes just be frozen and the audio will play choppily or it'll just hang when I hit play. I have 2 video tracks for multicam editing.
I used EyeFrame to convert my videos to 24 fps and they are 1080p. The total size of my videos are 13.0 GB for the full size and 4.70 GB for the proxies (which I think I am using if I did it correctly). Thanks for the responses so far. I think I am using 64-bit Lightworks (there is a red '64' on the opening project selector screen). I was using the proxies when I was having this problem but I noticed the performance did improve slightly when I switched back to the full-size HD videos.
However, when I looked at the filecard, it says it's still HD instead of the half-size proxies I have. Maybe it's because it didn't re-analyze them? MediaDS, I just took my system info from whatever print out my computer generated. If I don't have 8 cores then I am not sure what it is showing.
I am not sure what Display Memory is then either Everything should be on the HDD not the SSD. I didn't think my system was that outdated I feel like something is not right (a setting or something?) because it's not that things aren't going smoothly, it's like it won't even try! Moving the red cursor over my timeline is nearly impossible! Playing the timeline freezes things a lot of the time.
Memory (RAM) works with your storage drive to determine how fast apps respond. If your computer is low on RAM, you will notice programs might be unresponsive, multitasking between applications becomes more difficult, and video or sound can skip or freeze. Because nearly every computer operation relies on RAM, it’s essential to have enough to keep your computer running as quickly and smoothly as possible.
